There will be no bus for the Ursuline game.  This is just a varsity game, so varsity players need to bring a signed letter from a parent allowing her to drive herself/drive with another player/ or ride with a player.  This is for insurance purposes an must to be done.  Parents are welcome to pick up players after school and drive them to Serviam Field (Ursuline’s home field by Barley Mill Office Complex on Rt.141)  themselves. The game starts at 3:45, so we will be leaving school no later than 3.   Other members of the team not playing are encouraged to come to the game if rides can be arranged.

Please have signed notes to Coach Mess by Tuesday (9/4). 

Uniforms will be distributed at practice on Friday 8/31.  All players must bring in a check made out to CSW for $60.00.  These checks will be held as a deposit for the uniform.  Once the uniform is returned, the check will be returned to the player.  If any part of the uniform is not returned, the check will be deposited.

The syllabus should be signed by student and parent and returned to Mrs. Mess by Tuesday, 9/4 at the latest.  In addition to the syllabus, all ISS students should have a three ring binder with loose-leaf paper by Tuesday.

The following girls need to report to practice tomorrow (Friday 8/24) at 9 a.m. as well as the Tatnall Play Day at 7:30 a.m. :   2007 Charter Varsity & JV Field Hockey (click the link to read the list) 

Thanks to all the girls who came out for preseason this year!  Unfortunatly with such large numbers in the upperclasses, we are unable to keep everyone.  We are still in search of a JV goalie; if anyone would like to try out for that position, please come to practice tomorrow morning to work with Mrs. Heldt.

 A Freshmen team is still in the works.  If enough players are fielded, then all freshmen who came out this preseason will be participating on that team.  If enough players are not fielded, select freshmen will be added to the JV team.  If anyone knows of a freshmen that is interested, have her email me at smessinger@charterschool.org.

Unfortunatly the Field Hockey team will not be taking the Dorney Park trip this year.  The inclement weather has prevented much needed practice and preparation for the upcoming scrimmages.  In an effort to make up this time, practice will be held on Friday for those players who will be participating in Play Day (8/24).    Practice will be held from 9 am until 1 pm.   Those not required to be at practice should run and work on stick skills at home.  

The list of girls who will be playing in Play Day will be provided after Thursday’s practice.

All field hockey team members should plan on being at Play Day dressed in the “hand print” shirts made at practice.  Those playing should also have dark and white shin guards, mouthguards, sticks, cleats, and water bottles.   Reversible Charter Field Hockey pinnies will be provided for individual games.   

Play Day Schedule

Play Day is a learning opportunity for those girls who are inexperienced and/or new to the game; so even if your name is not on the list, you will benefit from attending. 

It looks like the rain is going to continue through the afternoon, preventing us from getting on the field; therefore practice is cancelled for today.  However, there will still be practice for the players listed in the earlier post.  We will meet under the overhang out front. 

Because the rain has put such a dent in our practice schedule this week, practice will be extended until 4 pm on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.  This is a change from 3 pm. 

So it looks like all the rain we were supposed to get yesterday is coming today!  Practice will be postponed until 11 a.m. unless otherwise noted.  Keep checking the blog for updates.  If the rain continues, practice for the entire team will be cancelled due to the fact that the field will not be usable.   Because rides are difficult to arrange on a short notice, there is no penalty for not attending (the possible) practice.  However, if you can make it, please make every possible effort. 

There will be practice for the potential varsity team at 11 a.m. no matter what.  Come prepared to lift in the weight room, but also bring hockey equipment for possible outdoor and/or indoor practice.   

With the forcast calling for 100% chance of rain, we will be going to Plan B.  Practice will still be held from 8:30 - 11:30, but there will be no afternoon practice. We will meet in front of the school under the overhang at 8:30.  Bring sneakers and water; hockey equipment is not necessary.  In terms of clothing, be prepared to run outside as well as inside.

Don’t forget Dorney Park is this Friday!  The cost is $35, which includes transportation and park entrance.  Permission slips will be available on Tuesday.  All checks are to be made out to CSW…cash is also welcome.

Charter Field Hockey will be participating in Play Day once again this year.  Players need to be at Tatnall at 7:30 am on Saturday August 25th.  A bus will not be provided.   Make sure to bring your equipment, which includes your stick, shinguards, cleats, MOUTH GUARD, water bottle. Our game schedule is as follows:

8:00 am field 3 v. Wilm. Friends
10:00 am field 2 v. Newark
11:30 am field 1 v. Padua
1:00 pm field 3 v. Archmere

Preseason will begin on Wednesday, August 15th.  BE SURE TO HAVE YOUR PHYSICAL COMPLETED PRIOR TO THIS DATE!  You will NOT be allowed to practice if your paperwork is not turned in.  We will be having double sessions as usual.  The first will be from 8:30 - 11:30 am and the second will go from 1 - 3 pm.  This schedule will be followed August 15th - 17th, 20th & 21st.  Practice times for the 18th, 22nd, and 23rd are TBA.  We will be taking our annual trip to Dorney Park on Friday August 24… more information to come.
