ISS Homework – phase 3

Due Monday 9/29

ISS Sections C & G – Scarcity Assignment

Describe an economic problem that you will personally be facing in the near future.  Be sure to answer the following questions:  What are your options?  Weigh your options providing the opportunity costs and benefits of each.  What is your final decision and why did you go with that choice?  Remember your problem does not have to involve money…time is just as valuable.

Communist Theory

All ISS classes -  Here are the notes on Marx’s Communist Theory.   Please print these out and be ready to discuss in class tomorrow.

ISS Homework – all sections

Due Thursday 9/18

Who and what influenced Karl Marx’s socialist/communist ideology?

In order to answer this question you will need to do a biographical sketch of Karl Marx.  Be sure to include family background, early influences, educational experiences, post college literature, his European travels, and influence his theories had on Europe.  Through your research you should be able to discover who and what events inspired his thinking on society and economics.

You may write in paragraph form, bulleted list, outline.  Do not cut and past from a web site – this is plagiarism! Be sure to include your sources of information – URL’s, Encyclopedias, etc…

ISS homework

Sections C,D,F,G – complete the Government Basics review sheet given out in class!  And as always STUDY!!! Every night you should be reviewing your notes/handouts/readings from class so that you are accumulating knowledge and not just cramming at the last second.

Freshmen ISS classes – all sections

As I mentioned in class today, I will often post my power points so that you have the notes ahead of time. Download the Government Basics Notes powerpoint for Thursday’s class.

To save paper & ink, follow these steps:

  1. So as to save your parents/schools ink, please remove all of the background features – just go to Format – Slide Design – and choose the “default design, which is a white background.
  2. Click the print button under the File tab – a text box will appear
  3. Select the “Slides” you need (example 2-15;17;19) or select “All” – keep in mind you may not need all of them all of the time – ask teacher if unsure
  4. Go down to “Print what” and select “Handouts”
  5. If you want to allow space for notes, change the “slides per page” to 3 instead of 6. This will give you lines to the right of each slide.  Keep in mind the more slides you print per page (9 is the largest), the more difficult they are to read.  You may also choose to do the “Outline View” if there are no important images in the powerpoint.
  6. Again, to save ink (color ink is more expensive than black) be sure you have removed background designs to plain white and in the Print text box select “Black and white” for your “Color/Greyscale” selection.
