Election 08

We will be taking part in a mock election the week before the actual election.  In an effort to make an educated choice, you need to be aware of who is running for the various public offices (not just president & vice president).  You will be voting for the following offices: Pres & VP, US Senate, US Rep, DE Governor, & Insurance Commissioner.  Click on the Sample Ballot to see who is running for each office.  On this ballot you will also see the various political parties – the two major parties and a handfull of third parties.   Google candidates that you do not know. Take the candidate quizzes listed below to see who best represents your views!  Discuss these candidates with your friends and family and be ready to VOTE THIS WEEK!!!

5 Themes of Geography Powerpoint

All ISS sections - Download the Five Themes of Geography   powerpoint to be used in conjunction with the reading in Chapter 1 of your World Geography textbook.

ISS Geography Assignment

  1. COVER YOUR GEOGRAPHY TEXTBOOK – all sections should have this done by Friday 10/24
  2. After reading the Geography Skills Handbook p. 1-15, you are to create two “mental maps.” These maps are to be done from memory, not using any resources other than your brain.  They do not need to be perfect, but you do need to make them neat so that they are legible.
  • Map 1 – create a large-scale mental map of a place that you are familiar with.  This should be more detailed since you know this place well. This could be your neighborhood, route to school, a part of town you frequent, routes that you run, etc… (It should not be just one building.)  You should have a title and a key and you should attempt to determine scale.   This is a sketch map, so do not use pen – USE PENCIL and SKETCH lightly until you are confident your map is the way you want it.   You may use color if you like once the pencil sketch is complete.  Some where on this map you should include a larger scale map (in the corner) that shows the place you are sketching in relation to the state that it is in.
  • Map 2 – create a small-scale mental map of the world.  Again this should be from memory and not a text book.  Sketch as many political and physical featurs of the Earth as you can remember.  Be sure that you make the map clean and neat so that it is easy to read. Include a title and key!
